WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE ANSWERS, HOLD ON TO GOD-part 5

Principle 5: When God Speaks From the Whirlwind

Book of Job 38:1–7; 40–42

38 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,

“Who is this that darkens counsel
By words without knowledge?
“Now gird up your loins like a man,
And I will ask you, and you instruct Me!
“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell Me, if you [a]have understanding,
Who set its measurements? Since you know.
Or who stretched the line on it?
“On what were its bases sunk?
Or who laid its cornerstone,
When the morning stars sang together
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?

BIG IDEAWhen God finally spoke, He did not explain Job’s suffering He revealed His sovereignty, confronted false theology, and invited Job to trust the wisdom of a God too great to be fully understood.

  1. GOD ANSWERED JOB WITH HIS PRESENCE (Job 38:1)
  1. GOD ANSWERED JOB WITH HIS POWER (Job 38–39)
  1. GOD ANSWERED JOB WITH HIS PROVIDENCE OVER CHAOS (Job 40–41)
  1. GOD ANSWERED JOB WITH DEEPER VISION (Job 42:1–6)
  1. WHAT GOD TEACHES US IN THE WHIRLWIND

SUFFERING Is Not Always PUNISHMENT

MYSTERY Is Part of FAITH

PRESENCE Can Be a Greater Answer Than EXPLANATION

The Goal of SUFFERING May Be DEEPER VISION
