Finding God Between the Thanks and the Tears”

Why are you in despair, O my soul?
And why have you become disturbed within me?
Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him
For the help of His presence- Psalm 42:5

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget none of His benefits;
Who pardons all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases;
Who redeems your life from the pit,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;
Who satisfies your years with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle. – Psalm 103:1–5

The people who walk in darkness
Will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land,
The light will shine on them – Isaiah 9:2

Big Idea: God meets us in the space where gratitude and grief collide.

Sermon Bridge: Thanksgiving looks back; Advent looks ahead. And God is faithful in the middle.

Purpose: To strengthen the faith of people walking into a season that is joyful for some, painful for others.

POINT 1: GOD IS PRESENT IN YOUR PRAISE (Psalm 103:1–5)

POINT 2: GOD IS PRESENT IN YOUR PAIN (Psalm 42:5)

POINT 3:GOD IS WORKING IN THE WAITING (Isaiah 9:2)

  1. Waiting Is Not a Sign That God Has Left You
  2. God Often Does His Best Work in the Dark
  3. God’s Work in the Waiting Is Strategic, Not Accidental
